
John Albers
John Albers is a Director with Advanced Energy United overseeing regulatory engagement and assisting with legislative efforts in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and Wisconsin. John works to expand opportunities for advanced energy technologies both within the central region and more broadly by supporting strategic efforts and assisting member companies navigate the different state landscapes. Prior to joining United, John oversaw SunPower’s policy and strategy efforts in the Midwest promoting opportunities for behind-the-meter solar and energy storage. His career started at the Illinois Commerce Commission where he served as an Administrative Law Judge for more than 17 years handling nearly every type of utility matter that came before the Commission. He continued his career as an attorney in private practice assisting local and national organizations and businesses achieve their regulatory goals. His legal work included assisting landowners negotiate leases for solar and wind projects in Illinois as well as representing renewable energy developers seeking permits. While practicing law, John also worked part-time acquiring leases and permits for community solar projects in central Illinois. Altogether, John has developed his policy and regulatory experience over 28 years.
